'We hold these truths to be self evident,
that all PEOPLE are created equal,
that they are endowed by their Creator
with certain unalienable rights,
that among these are
life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.'
what one person fears
another person celebrates
what one heart welcomes
another heart hesitates
what one mind accepts
another mind separates
where one thought can hate
another one can venerate
we must understand this
human contradiction
Black Americans perish
from poverty and acts of violence
assurances not kept
a national denial
their path to freedom
filled with tribulation and trial
their contributions swept away
from our collective mind
the stealing of their promise
with purpose and design
we have to accept;
we are all tainted
by our American legacy,
we need to take a knee
for the future of
this republic’s identity,
for the soul of our nation
for who we want to become
for the change we want to come
that’s the only way to get it done
it’s in our hands;
to recognize our
judgements and cautions
to acknowledge our
mental biases and distortions
to accept our nation’s history
of subjugation and torture
taking others’ land and labor
without regard or accordance
for manifest destiny’s future fortune
we have seen;
from previous times
changing policies//passing laws
they provide protection
but don’t change minds
privilege blinds
white supremacy finds
a place for the discontented
of circumstances intersected
refuge for the unrepentant
we all need a transfusion
to heal our revered national delusion
that we are all a part of
American greatness without exclusion
the promise, a noble theme
the result without conclusion
masking the fierce and destructive
underbelly of our country’s injustice
preventing a more perfect union
that conquers and divides us
we need a result that takes strength
to take away the old time stench
of despicable deeds done in the name
of economy
of superiority
of sovereignty
that's the only way for our nation
to become the truth of its creation
beyond the imagination
of the founding fathers
'We the People of the United States,
in Order to form a more perfect Union,
establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility,
provide for the common defense,
promote the general Welfare,
and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity,
do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
